One Maine town's police department is reminding residents to be vigilant and keep their vehicles secured and locked. Additionally they're also reminding people not to leave valuables in the car, too.

WGME reports that the Cape Elizabeth Police Department responded to multiple reports of vehicle break-ins in the area of Fort Williams Park and the Robinson Woods parking lot near Shore Road.

Police say that these thieves are not interested in actually stealing your car, but instead just valuable items you may have left inside it. And though this spike in break-ins has been reported in Cape Elizabeth, this is a stark reminder that it can happen anywhere in Maine and beyond.

As Mainers, we often feel like we live in areas, particularly rural ones, where we can leave our doors unlocked and keys in the car all the time because 'it's such a good place to live'. But even Maine's most rural communities can fall victim to these thieves, so use caution always!
