19-Year-Old Maine Man Accused of Pulling Knife, Stealing Alcohol From Maine Wal Mart
A 19-year-old Maine man from Portage Lake is in custody following allegations that he pulled a knife out and attempted to steal booze from Wal Mart.
According to WGME 13, Bangor Police officers responded on Saturday to the Wal Mart Supercenter after reports of a male attempting to shoplift. As the man was leaving, store associates attempted to stop him, and that's when he allegedly pulled out a knife.
Wal Mart staff say as the man was fleeing the store, he left the area with the shopping cart and went over to another area business where he climbed into a vehicle that was parked there.
Later in the day, Bangor Police executed a traffic stop on that same vehicle on Hogan Road, but the suspect was no longer inside, WGME reported.
Fortunately, area police were successfully able to locate the suspect hiding behind another business on Hogan Road in Bangor and take him into custody without incident.
WGME reports that the 19-year-old, identified as Niri Scott from Portage Lake, Maine, stole about $300 worth of alcohol from the Bangor Wal Mart.
Police say that Scott admitted to stealing the alcohol from the retail giant, but then denied that he had ever pulled out a knife as store employees attempted to stop him.
Scott was taken into custody and transported to the Penobscot County Jail where he was booked on robbery charges.
This is a developing story that we will keep updated as more information becomes available to us.
It's important to note that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
