Maine Woman Killed After Being Hit by Pickup in Waterville
A Waterville woman has died after she was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a busy roadway Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
According to WGME 13, 74-year-old Kathleen Corridan of Waterville, was attempting to cross Kennedy Memorial Drive near the intersection with Brigham Street around 4:40 p.m. when the crash occurred. Investigators say a GMC pickup truck, driven by a 60-year-old man from Norridgewock, was traveling through the intersection when it hit Corridan.
WGME said that Corridan was wearing dark clothing at the time, a detail they say may have contributed to the driver’s inability to see her before the impact. Emergency crews arrived quickly, and Corridan was transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, and police say no charges have been filed at this time. Officials say early indications suggest the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
the news station reported that the crash is still under investigation as police work to reconstruct the incident and review any potential surveillance video from nearby businesses. Kennedy Memorial Drive is one of Waterville’s busiest corridors, and police are urging drivers and pedestrians to use extra caution, especially during dusk and early evening hours when visibility is reduced.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Waterville Police Department as the investigation continues.
