Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Parts of Maine
After a mild start to the week, a much cooler and more active weather pattern is expected to move into Maine, bringing the potential for slick travel and messy conditions through midweek.
Clouds overnight will help keep temperatures from dropping too far, with most areas staying at or above freezing. Some locations could even see lows in the low 40s. Just when you thought winter in Maine had come to an end, this little fake spring was like 'nah, bro, just kidding!'
WABI has issued A First Alert Weather Day for inland areas from Tuesday into Wednesday morning as snow, sleet, and freezing rain move into the region. The first round of precipitation is expected to arrive Tuesday morning, right around the morning commute. Snow will spread across much of the state early in the day, with a few inches of accumulation possible. This could lead to slick roads and slower travel through midday Tuesday.
Closer to the coast, precipitation will likely begin as rain showers before mixing with snow at times. The immediate coastline is expected to see mostly rain. Conditions should briefly improve Tuesday afternoon, with temperatures climbing into the 30s and low 40s and a temporary break in precipitation, Channel 5 explained.
A second and potentially more impactful round of weather is expected Tuesday night into early Wednesday. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for inland areas, where snow, sleet, and freezing rain are all possible. Northern Maine is expected to see mostly snow, while areas farther south, including the Western Mountains, Central Highlands, and Interior Downeast, could see a wintry mix.
Some inland areas could see up to half an inch of sleet and around two tenths of an inch of ice. The highest icing potential appears to be north of Bangor, but even a light glaze in other areas of the state could create slick roads and difficult travel for the Wednesday morning commute.
