For many Maine families, affording groceries or basic necessities remains a daily challenge. The Midcoast Youth Center is working to ease that burden through a new partnership with DoorDash.

While the center is home to one of the state’s largest indoor skateparks, its mission extends far beyond skateboarding, WGME reported. Founder Jamie Dorr transformed the Bath facility into a youth center in 2016, creating a safe space for dozens of young people each day.

“Depending on the day, you could have 60 kids in here, you could have 90 kids,” Dorr said. “There is a very hidden problem.”

WGME went on to explain that The Midcoast Youth Center operates much like an after-school program, but serves a population facing far greater challenges. Dorr says many teens rely on the center as their primary source of stability and support.

“We have young teenagers that are leaving home for a number of reasons and don’t have any sort of social support,” Dorr said. “For most of these kids, this is their home.”

The center currently supports about 120 families experiencing homelessness across Sagadahoc County.

What began as a small effort to help families in need has grown significantly. The organization has previously received recognition from the New England Patriots, and now DoorDash has stepped in to help.

Channel 13 said through the partnership, DoorDash provided $3,000 in credits, distributed among 30 families to help cover food and essential household items. Families can choose what they need and have those items delivered directly to them.

“People can decide what meals or essentials they need and have those items delivered,” said DoorDash Public Engagement Manager Daniela Michanie.

DoorDash has supported other Maine organizations as well, including Wayside Food Programs and Preble Street in Portland.

“People are working so hard just to make ends meet,” Dorr said. “It’s really tough out there right now.”

The Midcoast Youth Center says DoorDash is its first sponsor of 2026, and leaders hope the partnership will continue, allowing them to assist even more families across the region.
