Friday marks the official first day of spring, but in Maine, it is not going to feel like it. Instead of warm sunshine and melting snow, much of the state will be dealing with a mix of snow and rain.

The day will start off on a decent note. Morning hours should bring some brightness with temperatures climbing into the 40s. It may even feel like spring is trying to show up. That will not last long.

Clouds will quickly move in during the afternoon as the next system approaches. Snow is expected inland and in the mountains, where a coating to an inch is possible in some areas. The system will spread across the state during the evening commute, making for messy travel conditions.

Along the coast, most areas will see rain, especially early in the night. Inland locations will likely start as snow before changing over to rain.

Saturday will be the best day of the weekend. Expect sunshine and more seasonable temperatures, with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

Sunday brings another round of unsettled weather. Snow and rain are expected to develop around sunrise and continue through the day and into Monday morning. This could create travel issues to start the workweek.

Looking ahead, below normal temperatures are expected to stick around for the next couple of weeks.
