It seems like every single week we're hearing of more arrests involving drug traffickers in the state of Maine. It's fortunate that the state has such a dedicated team of investigators with the Maine State Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. And, as we've seen over and over again, lots of times these drug traffickers are coming here from other states, typically New York.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman, Shannon Moss, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, with assistance of other departments, was successfully able to apprehend an alleged drug trafficker who had several outstanding warrants for arrest.

Moss says that the North Central Task Force of the Maine Department of Drug Enforcement has been conducting a months-long investigation into the influx and distribution of illicit drugs from a residence on Moosehead Boulevard in Bangor, Maine. This investigation reportedly included undercover purchases of crack cocaine from the suspect, 28-year-old Antron K. Owens of Brooklyn, New York.

Moss went on to say that on Thursday, agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency along with the assistance of the Bangor Police Department, were successfully able to take the suspect into custody. Moss said police saw him in his car and approached him to make the arrest. At that time, Owens reportedly fled the car on foot.

Police said that during the foot chase, officers observed Owens throw what turned out to be a stolen 9mm handgun to the ground. Moss reported that Owens was eventually arrested a short distance from where he originally fled the car on foot. At the time of his arrest, Owens was allegedly in possession of approximately $2500 in suspected drug proceeds.

The press release concludes in part;

At the time of Owens arrest, he was wanted on ten outstanding arrest warrants. Among them were warrants for Kidnapping, Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence Terrorizing, Criminal Restraint, Criminal Mischief, Violations of Conditions of Release, Failure to Appear and Failure to Stop for an Officer. Cash bail set on all the outstanding arrests warrants exceeds $30,000. In addition to the warrants, Owens was out on seven active sets of bail. All warrants and bail conditions are from the State of Maine.
