A heartbreaking scene unfolded late Thursday night in Old Orchard Beach, as police say a local man lost his life in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

According to WGME 13, it happened around 11:35 p.m. near 138 Temple Avenue. Police say the 50-year-old Old Orchard Beach man was riding his motorcycle when he lost control, leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Despite emergency crews rushing to the scene, he was pronounced dead where he fell.

WGME went on to say that authorities have not yet released the man’s name, as they work to notify his family. While no other vehicles were involved, police say speed is believed to have played a role in the crash.

Temple Avenue was closed for several hours overnight as investigators gathered evidence and reconstructed the scene, WGME said. The road has since reopened, but the investigation into exactly what happened is still ongoing.

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder about the importance of slowing down, especially during late-night rides when visibility is low. Our thoughts go out to the family, friends, and community members grieving this loss in Old Orchard Beach.
