Fire Destroys Woodworking Trailer, Damages Mobile Home in Palmyra, Maine
A Saturday morning fire in Palmyra destroyed a travel trailer and caused significant damage to a nearby mobile home, leaving property owners displaced.
According to a press release from Maine Department of Public Safety, the Hartland Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 603 Warren Hill Road in Palmyra at approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 11, 2026. When crews arrived, they found a 32-foot travel trailer, which had been converted into a woodworking shop, heavily involved in flames. The fire had already spread from the trailer to a nearby mobile home.
Firefighters quickly worked to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. The property owners were not home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported during suppression efforts. However, officials say one cat remains unaccounted for following the incident.
Due to the size and intensity of the fire, several neighboring departments were called in for mutual aid, including St. Albans, Canaan, Corinna, Newport, and Pittsfield fire crews. Their assistance helped bring the situation under control.
The travel trailer was destroyed in the fire, while the mobile home sustained extensive fire damage. The American Red Cross has been notified and is assisting the displaced property owners with immediate needs.
Investigators later examined the scene, but due to the extent of the damage, they were unable to determine a specific origin or cause of the fire. At this time, officials say there is no indication of suspicious activity, and the fire has been classified as undetermined.
The incident remains under review.
