Yesterday afternoon 150 pilings were removed from Popham Beach in Phippsburg, Maine.

Jackson and Susan Parker own a summer home that overlooks the pilings. The couple, who reside in Woolwich, applied for permits to remove them, citing erosion of their beach as the reason for wanting them gone, according to the Times Record.

The pilings were the remains of the pier used by the Eastern Steamship Lines company.

The neighbors of the Parkers attempted to appeal to overturn the permit citing sceninc and historical reasons but were unsuccessful.

People have been flocking to the Facebook group I LOVE Popham Beach to share their photos, memories, and distain for the removal of the pilings.
