The Lewiston School Committee next Monday night (Aug. 17) will be asked to approve a new school to be built at the Franklin Pasture Sports Complex near Lewiston High School.

The new school would combine students from Longley and Martel elementary schools.

The plan includes relocating the existing athletic fields at Franklin Pasture.

According to the Sun/Journal, the student population at the high school is now just over 1,300 students. The population at the new elementary school would be between 800 and 900 students.

The meeting Monday will be held in the council chambers at City Hall at 6:45 pm.

I went to Martel School, for a while when I was in elementary school, and it needed to be replaced then. Heck it was so long ago, we played with dinosaurs on the playground.
