RANKED: These Are The Best Maine Counties to Live in
When it comes to living in Maine, we're pretty lucky to have as diversity in our towns and cities as we do.
From jam-packed and always-busy places like Portland and Bangor, to salt-water-smelling rocky coastal towns like Camden and Eastport, to the windy mountainside towns like Bethel and Kingfield, there's no shortage of views, terrain and populations to choose from in the Pine Tree State.
Recently, Stacker put out a list of the best counties to live in within the state of Maine. The rankings were based on things like population, public and private schools, things to do and the average cost of rent.
While Maine has 16 counties, only 13 ended up making the list. But, before we dive into the results, can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that our kids (just like we did) still learn about Maine's counties through song?
If you're not familiar with Maine's 16 counties song, you either live under a giant rock, or you're not from around here.
We're gonna get to the list of best counties, I promise, but first you have to sing this song (even if it's just in your head).
The county song is sung to the tune of 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', and ah 1 and ah 2...
The sixteen counties in our state are:
Cumberland and Franklin,
Piscataquis and Somerset,
Aroostook, Androscoggin,
Sagadahoc and Kennebec,
Lincoln, Knox, and Hancock,
Waldo, Washington, and York,
Oxford and Penobscot.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, take a look at Stacker's list of the best Maine counties to live in. And, let us know if you agree with the list. Where did your county rank?
