It's hard to wrap our minds around the fact that the terror attack of 9/11 were 23 years ago. Full-on adults that have graduated college and are participating in the workforce weren't even born yet. Wild.

I remember learning of the planes that were hijacked and crashed into that Pennsylvania field, the Pentagon and of course, the World Trade Center towers in New York City. It seemed surreal as all of the details began to pour in about the attacks.

I remember sitting in my 8th grade history class at China Middle School with Mr. Boynton. Details were coming in over the announcement intercom in the school as the library worked to get the rolling cart TVs deployed to the 8th grade wing classrooms.

For obvious reasons, they limited the age group of students that they showed this footage too as it was insanely graphic, even for live TV news. I remember sitting in that classroom as we watched a live newsfeed as the first tower fell...then eventually the second.

I remember learning how President George W. Bush was evacced to Air Force One and was put in the air indefinitely while the joint chiefs worked to figure out what exactly was happening to our country.

In the days to come, I remember countless conversations at school about what had happened and its impact on the United States. I remember learning about classmates and teachers who had friends and family members that were in the towers that never made it out.

It was, and still seems, surreal.

What a tragic loss of life for our country. What a devastating attack on our Homeland.

It was 23 years ago and still, it seems like it was both just yesterday and a lifetime ago. Surreal.
