Saturday, April 18th is ‘Record Store Day’. A day when we celebrate the remaining record stores that are still open and vinyl as a medium for music.

Maybe you knew or maybe you’re learning this now, but ‘Record Store Day’ is an international day and was started eight years ago here in Maine by the people who run Bull Moose, an independent record store chain.

On April 18th at different Bull Moose locations throughout the state there are special events being scheduled, concerts and of course records for sale.

Back when I was in high school I had quite the collection of 45s, today not so much. Sadly the only two records I have in the house aside form a few 45s that go with children’s books are ‘Hysteria’ by Def Leppard and ‘Toys in the Attic’ from Aerosmith.

The first 45 I owned was given to me by my Mom’s friend and it was one of the Stars on 45 singles which was pretty much a mix of oldies. Check the video below for the song.

The first album I bought on my own I’m embarrassed to admit was ‘Super Trouper’ from ABBA. I paid I think, $6.99.

What was your first record, whether it be a 45 or full album, let us know.
