Firefighters Stop Garage Fire From Spreading Into Sebago Home

Firefighters were able to keep a garage fire from spreading into a Sebago home Thursday morning.

According to the Sebago Fire Department, crews were called to 33 Mill Pond Circle at approximately 7:55 a.m. on August 13 for a reported structure fire.

A press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety explained that when firefighters arrived, they found flames inside a two-bay attached garage. Crews immediately began working to knock down the fire and were able to contain it to the garage area before it could spread into the main portion of the home.

Because additional firefighters and a stronger water supply were needed at the scene, a second alarm was requested.

The homeowners were inside the residence when the fire broke out, but officials said they were able to get out safely. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the home or any of the firefighters who responded.

Officials said the fire appears to have been accidental and electrical in nature.

The exact cause remains under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The quick response by firefighters helped prevent what could have been significantly more damage to the residence. Attached garage fires can pose a serious risk of spreading into homes because of their close proximity to living spaces and the presence of vehicles, fuel and other combustible materials commonly stored inside garages.

Additional details about the extent of the damage were not immediately released.
