According to the Kennebec Journal, several people, including 2 adults and 5 minors, have been identified and charged in an apparent vandalism string that has plagued multiple schools throughout Maine's RSU 18.

The KJ reports that the seven people that have been identified are all from the Oakland, Waterville and Rome, some of those charged are students at RSU 18 schools. The seven have a various number of charges against them including burglary, aggravated criminal mischief, and criminal mischief.

The KJ says that the Oakland Police were called over the weekend and provided reports that vandalism and break-ins had occurred at Messalonskee Middle & High Schools and Williams Elementary School.

Officials at the district say that several fire extinguishers were sprayed in the buildings and that spray paint was used in the roadways, light poles and other locations.

Though the identities of the five minors are being withheld from the media, the names of the two adults that were charged have been provided.

The KJ reports that Brandon Knight and Zachary Knight, both 18 and from Oakland, were charged with the crimes. Police also say that Zachary and Brandon are cousins.

Police were able to identify all involved based on a combination of physical evidence and videos.

RSU 18 Superintendent, Carl Gartley, told the Kennebec Journal in part;

“The sad part is, the facility looks fantastic, the maintenance team has worked hard and the custodial team has worked hard. We just had a few people who decided to do something stupid, and we have to deal with it.”

This is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available.
