Popular Augusta Cookie Shop Is Changing Its Name and Getting a Whole New Menu
SMUSH Is Changing Its Name — Meet Somerville Road Co.
If you’ve been following along, you know there have already been a few twists and turns with the restaurant coming to 185 Water Street in Augusta.
I first told you about SMUSH Cookie Creamery coming to downtown Augusta, and more recently shared that a name change was coming. Well, now we know what that new name is: Somerville Road Co.
There’s a Pretty Cool Story Behind the Name
Somerville Road Co. gets its name from Somerville Road in Somerville, Maine, where owner Devin French’s grandparents, Merle and Mary French, lived for nearly 60 years.
It was his mother’s childhood home and a place where French spent countless nights, holidays and family gatherings growing up. His grandmother helped inspire his love of cooking, while his grandfather was one of his biggest supporters.
Now, French is bringing those memories into this new restaurant while also building something for the next generation, his daughters, Vada and Hadley.
What’s on the Menu?
The new concept goes way beyond cookies and ice cream. Somerville Road Co. will feature homemade Parmesan herb focaccia paninis, loaded baked potatoes, soups, chili, steamed hot dogs, warm homemade cookies, Gifford’s hard-serve ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and warm cookie ice cream sandwiches.
SMUSH is expected to close for the final time before the restaurant transitions to Somerville Road Co., with the relaunch planned for around October 15.
And judging by that menu, I’m already hungry.
