Don't you just love winter in Maine? Ahh, the sound of the season, the smell of fresh-cut Christmas trees and the lovely sights of ice covering our busiest roadways. Wait, that last part isn't good is it?

Well, according to an article from WGME 13, that's exactly what we can expect to see as we head through Monday overnight into Tuesday. How fun is that?

Christian Bridges, WGME Meteorologist, goes on to explain that there is a winter weather advisory that will go into effect later Monday afternoon, impacting a large portion of Maine and New Hampshire.

As we head into the late evening hours, a mixed bag of precipitation will begin to fall over the region. And, because temperatures will be hovering right around that freezing mark, the stuff falling from the sky is likely to be a 'mixed bag'.

Folks up and down the Northern east coast can expect to see rain mixing with periods of snow, sleet and freezing rain. What does this mean for you? Well, in short, it means that there is a very good chance that the Tuesday morning commute could be a real bear. Bear isn't the word I had originally typed there, by the way.

As we head into Tuesday, much of the precipitation has dissipated by about 8am. However, it will take road crews a little while to catch up and get everything sanded and salted, so some school delays are likely.

Following this fun little ice event, a major rain storm will move into the region Wednesday and Thursday dumping upwards of 3" of water in some areas of New England, including Maine.

Cool!
