Maine State Police have charged a Standish woman with murder in connection to the death of her boyfriend, authorities said Thursday.

37-year-old Lynn Perkins was taken into custody at her home on 715 River Road Thursday afternoon. WGME reported that she is currently being held without bail at Cumberland County Jail, according to police.

The victim, 49-year-old Matthew Hamilton, was found dead inside the residence on October 3. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta confirmed that Hamilton died from a gunshot wound, though further details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been released, the news station reported.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they are continuing to gather information about what led up to the fatal incident. Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed whether any additional suspects or witnesses are involved.

Neighbors in the Standish area expressed shock at the news with one person telling WGME “It’s just unbelievable,” one resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen right here in our neighborhood.”

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact Maine State Police. No further details on the motive have been released at this time.
