STAY SAFE: Maine Temperatures to Reach ‘Dangerous’ Levels on Thursday into Friday

I think it's official now. We have finally entered the 'dog days of summer'. Hold on, I don't actually know what that means so I'm gonna go Google it.

Okay I'm back, and I have what I think is a solid definition from Google. Here's what the world's largest search engine says about it,

The term “Dog Days” traditionally refers to a period of particularly hot and humid weather occurring during the summer months of July and August in the Northern Hemisphere.

Yup, I think these are definitely the dog days of summer. And according to WGME news 13, it's going to get a whole lot hotter over the next couple of days.

Today (Wednesday) will see highs in the Pine Tree State range from 76 to 86 degrees with moderate humidity. And even though 86 degrees certainly seems warm, it's going to seem like a cool-off when we compare it to tomorrow.

WGME meteorologist Christian Bridges says that temperatures in Maine on Thursday afternoon will peak well into the 90s for some regions. These temperatures, which really goes without saying, can become dangerous quite quickly.

As you can see from the above map, Thursday temperatures will range from around 81 in Rockland, Maine to a whopping 98 degrees in Fryeburg, Maine. Obviously if you do have to be outside on Thursday, you'll want to try and limit your exposure to direct sunlight for long periods of time, wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. Oh lord, I sound like your mother now.

Because of the excessive heat, there is a heat advisory that will be in effect until 8 o'clock on Thursday evening. The effected areas are shaded in the graphic below.
