One of the largest affected demographics of the coronavirus pandemic has been our young kids. From having a normal routine one day to not returning to school for months the next. We've also seen many Maine school children begin to fall behind grade-wise because they're not performing as well with remote learning. Well, one Maine library is seeking to help.

With the assistance of Zoobean, The Anonimo Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Damariscotta, the Skidompha Library will be offering learning and literacy kits to children of different ages.

They will offer early lit kits for kids pre-K to grade 3. These kits will contain an audio CD, some workbooks, pencils, learn-to-read books and five early reader books. There will also be a kit for music literacy for pre-K to grade 3 as well.

Next on the list is the 'Amplifying Black Voices' kits for grades 2-4. These kits will contain material written and produced by black authors. The kits also contain resources for adults that wish to have conversations about racism with their kids.

People can also pick up STEM kits for any age. These kits were put together by the Maine Audubon Society and contain Nature Explorer Backpacks. The kit will contain book lists as well as games and activities, craft ideas and even a nature journal.

Finally there will be a MaKey invention kit offered. This kit will show how children take everyday objects and turn them into touchpads and computer keys.

If you're interested in acquiring one of these kits, you can stop by the library or give them a call for curbside pickup at 207.563.5513. Click here to visit them online.
