A Turner man is searching for answers after his dog was shot and killed in what he believes was a deliberate act.

WGME said Kevin Nichols says the incident happened last week and shared details in a Facebook post that quickly gained attention. His dog, Zeke, had eaten some trash that had been thrown onto his lawn. Not long after, Zeke began vomiting and acting unusually, leading Nichols to believe it was a stomach issue.

As Zeke’s condition worsened, Nichols discovered a puncture wound on the dog’s hip. He rushed him to a veterinary hospital, where staff determined Zeke had been shot from behind with a pellet gun, WGME reported.

Zeke died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Nichols says he is devastated and determined to find out who is responsible. He is now offering a $1,000 reward for information that could lead to answers in the case.

The incident has sparked concern in the local community, with many expressing outrage and support for Nichols online. Questions remain about who may have been involved and whether the act was intentional or random.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether an investigation is underway. NewsCenter Maine has reached out to local law enforcement for more information.

For Nichols, the focus remains on seeking justice for Zeke and making sure whoever is responsible is held accountable.
