When the days in Maine start to get shorter and the air begins to get cooler it can only mean one thing. It's Halloween season! And of course here in the Pine Tree State there is no shortage of spooky fun to be had.

From haunted houses and hay rides all around Maine to trunk-or-treats flooding our social feeds, there is ALWAYS something to go out and do with friends or the family this time of year.

However, in my humble opinion, there is one haunted attraction that is an absolute must-do for anyone brave enough to enter the dark and foggy corridors. Of course I'm talking about the annual haunted house put on by United Volunteers of Maine.

For literal decades, this haunted house has injected frightening fun into the Central Maine community. Not only do the United Volunteers of Maine like to scare area communities, they also like to give back to them.

That's why the proceeds from the annual event go back to support area youth groups and non-profits throughout the region. Not only are you having fun when you attend, you're also helping to give back. Win-win, am I right?

As far as when you can plan on going to the Haunted House, there are a number of weekends that they will be open at the Marketplace @ Augusta right next to Barnes & Noble.

The Haunted House will open on October 4th, and will be open the 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th, 30th, 21st and November 1st. Doors will be open from 7-9p.
