Drivers in Waterville and Winslow will need to plan for a major traffic change as the Ticonic Bridge closes for more than a month.

According to the Maine Department of Transportation, the bridge closed to all traffic beginning at 12 a.m. Tuesday. The closure will remain in place until June 29 while crews continue work on the new bridge.

During the closure, vehicles will be detoured to the Carter Memorial Bridge. Pedestrians will be directed to use the Two Cent Bridge, WABI reported.

The Ticonic Bridge is a key connection between Waterville and Winslow, so the closure is expected to impact commuters, local drivers, and anyone traveling through the area.

Maine DOT says the full closure is part of the ongoing bridge replacement project. Drivers are encouraged to give themselves extra time and follow the posted detour signs while the work continues.
