Forecasting weather is never an exact science. I mean, in all actuality, it's kind of like being a psychic of precipitation isn't it? As it turns out, the weather that we were expecting for tonight in Maine has taken a bit of a turn.

According to a weather update from WABI, what they originally thought was going to be some light snow showers across the state now appears to be a system that, at times, will produce some pretty heavy snowfall.

The good news is that no matter how much snow falls in the Central Maine area, it's not likely to stick around very long. And, considering that it's already the second day of spring, I would argue that most of us are okay with that.

As far as how much snow Maine can expect from this evening's bout of winter weather, it really depends on where you are and exactly how the storm tracks.

WABI it reporting that the largest snowfall totals will be seen north of Bangor and up to the Canadian border. That large region of the state could see as much as 4-8 inches and, in some spots, even more.

South of Bangor and into the Central Maine region of the Pine Tree State, snowfall totals are expected to hover around 2-5 inches by the time this system makes its way out.

As far as timing, it looks like this storm will start causing slick travel conditions as we head into the evening hours, that means the commute home should likely be dry. However, there's potential that lingering snow showers could make it a bit messy as we head into work on Thursday morning.

But alas, it's weather in Maine. And, like they always say, if you don't like it, just wait a minute and it will change.

The end.
