Westbrook Police Respond to Two Standoffs in Less Than 24 Hours
Police in Westbrook say officers responded to two separate standoffs involving domestic violence reports in less than 24 hours.
According to Westbrook police, the first incident happened Friday morning in Hamlet Park off Saco Street. Police say officers were called after someone reported being the victim of domestic violence. That person was able to safely get away from the situation before officers arrived.
Police say the suspect, identified as a 41-year-old man, was armed and created a brief standoff with officers. After responding to the scene and working to bring the situation under control, police were eventually able to take the man into custody.
He is now facing multiple charges, including domestic violence assault. Police have not released the suspect’s name or provided additional information about the other charges.
The second incident happened less than 24 hours later, early Saturday morning on Myrtle Street. Police say officers were again called to a domestic violence-related incident and found the suspect barricaded inside a bathroom.
According to police, the suspect was armed with a knife. Officers remained on scene during an hourlong standoff before the person was eventually taken into custody.
Westbrook police said the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office assisted officers during both incidents.
Police have not released the identities of the people involved in either case. Additional details, including whether anyone was seriously injured, have not been released.
Both incidents remain part of ongoing police cases.
