Police Seek Driver Involved in Maine Motorcycle Hit & Run

A man has died and a woman is in the hospital with what officials are calling serious injuries following a motorcycle crash Sunday evening in Woodstock. According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 7:50 p.m. at the intersection of South Main Street and Route 232.

Authorities say they are also looking for another vehicle that may have been involved or connected to the crash in some way, WMTW reported.

When emergency crews got to the scene, a bystander was already performing CPR on the motorcycle’s driver, a 60-year-old man from Oxford. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His passenger, a 50-year-old woman, also from Oxford, was rushed to the hospital with what are being called serious injuries, channel 8 went on to say.

According to police, the motorcycle was part of a group riding together at the time of the crash. Witnesses told investigators that as they were heading up a hill that included a slow-traffic lane when the lead motorcycle attempted to pass a gray, diesel four-wheel-drive GM pickup truck.

That’s when, according to other riders in the group, the pickup suddenly swerved left into the passing lane, forcing the motorcycle off course and causing the driver to lose control.

The motorcycle ended up crashing into a wooded area, while the pickup truck kept going and left the scene.

WMTW reported that police say the truck was last seen heading south on Route 26, and police have since been able to pull some surveillance footage that captured the vehicle. They’ve shared still images of the truck in hopes that someone might recognize it and help identify the driver.
