A boating mishap in York Harbor sent one person into the water Saturday afternoon, prompting a swift rescue by emergency crews.

The York Fire Department reported that the incident occurred around noon when a small boat unexpectedly capsized. The lone occupant was left clinging to the side of the overturned vessel, struggling to stay afloat.

According to WGME 13, firefighters and other first responders quickly arrived at the scene, working efficiently to pull the individual to safety. Authorities say the person was unharmed and is expected to recover fully.

While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, officials are reminding boaters to always wear life jackets and to be aware of changing water conditions. York Harbor, a popular spot for recreational boating, has seen several similar incidents in recent years, though fortunately, none have resulted in serious injuries as of late.

The news station said emergency personnel praised bystanders who helped keep the situation under control until rescuers arrived. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and vigilance on Maine’s waterways.
