Superman’s home planet Krytpon isn’t fictional anymore! Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has discovered the real-life counterpart to the planet that is so deeply embedded in the ‘Superman’ canon.Tyson discovered the red dwarf star that is located in the Corvus constellation and is about 27.1 light years away from Earth. Up until now, this star was known as LHS 2520 but it won’t be long until devoted Superman fan boys insist on calling it Krypton. The real-life counterpart to Superman’s planet has a highly turbulent surface that is red in color and is somewhat smaller and cooler than our sun, Tyson explains.

The discovery was made after DC Comics reached out to deGrasse Tyson, who is New York City’s very own Hayden Planetarium director, and asked for his help on assigning the planet Krypton a real-life location.

Also, to mark the occasion, DC Comics will have a tie-in cameo appearance by Dr. Tyson in the next issue of ‘Action Comics’ where he will help Superman locate where his home planet used to be. Now if only we could get a real-life Superman to help us out. That x-ray vision could come in handy when we’ve lost our keys.
