Augusta Native Elsie Viles has Passed Away at the Age of 98

Augusta native and philanthropist Elsie Viles passed away this weekend. She was 98. I never met Mrs. Viles, but I was thinking about her this weekend while I was at the Viles Arboretum in Augusta. I did not know at that time of her passing. Mrs. Viles grew up in Augusta, married and lived her life in longtime Augusta home.

She was also very generous. She gave her heart and her money to many local causes she believed in and were of personal interest to her. According to the Kennebec Journal, donations from the Elsie & William Viles Foundation have touched many in the area over the years.  Thank you Mrs. Viles for all you have done for the Augusta area.
