It’s Cold, Furnace Will Be Working Overtime
We’re in a brutal cold spell, at least through this week anyway. I’ve seen two Facebook status updates from people saying something to the effect of, "I hope we don’t run out of oil." Not sure if it's because of their cash flow or not, but it does make me think to at least help direct those who are going without oil, or are challenged with heating costs, to the right place.
Winter Words of Wisdom from Renee
Ugh. Winter in Maine is not my favorite time of the year. I am not a big fan of the cold or the snow. Why do I live here? The rest of the year is darn nice. So, as I was standing in out in the cold at the Augusta Dog Park (Yeah, I hate the cold, but I will stand out in it for my fur-baby!) it dawned on me I have a short list in the last couple of years that have made winter much more manageable for me.
Flu Season Focusing Attention on ‘Paid Sick Day’ Issue
This flu season is drawing attention to the issues around mandatory paid sick leave. Not so much for those who have it, but for those who do not. More than 40 million people in the work force do not have paid sick days. So, when they are sick, if they do not work, they do not get paid.
Greg Michaels’ Weekend Including Justin’s Birthday Party
My son Justin turned 11 years old on January 12th but last night into this morning was his birthday party with friends. Like with Dylan this past summer, Justin had a few friends overnight to celebrate. Lynn made awesome homemade pizzas for dinner last night and the leftovers I think will make for great eats while watching the NFC and AFC title games.
AFC Championship Game vs. Downton Abbey: Who Will Win in Your Home?
Hey I get this one. I know Sunday night the TV will be on the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens and my DVR will be recording my 'Downton Abbey,' but not everyone has that option OR wants to wait until the next day to get their 'Downton' fix.
The Internet Riots After Elizabeth Banks Says Mothers of Only Children Aren’t ‘Really’ Moms
Actress Elizabeth Banks has gone and pissed off the one portion of the population you never want to make angry: moms. She won't like them when they're angry.
The fire was ignited in an interview with PEOPLE, where Banks discussed what it was like to be a mother. Innocuous enough stuff, until she brought up how having more than one kid is much more difficult and moms of only children just aren't "real" parents.
Greg Michaels’ Son Dylan’s School Concert at Auburn Middle School
Normally holiday school concerts are before the holidays but because of faculty shuffling it wasn't until after Thanksgiving that Auburn Middle School secured their music coordinator and everything got rolling. Tonight was my son Dylan's school band's 'After Holiday, Holiday Concert.'

Greg Michaels’ Son Justin Turns 11 Today, Happy Birthday!
There are just a few days in your life you probably know by heart, your wedding day and births of your children. Today is my son Justin's 11th birthday. I remember that day as well as I do for the others, but I will tell those stories when their birthdays come along.
