Gov. Paul LePage is seeking to block attempts to increase the minimum wage at the local level. The governor has introduced a bill that would prohibit municipalities from enacting proposals regarding the minimum wage, currently set at $7.50 an hour. It comes as Portland and Bangor both consider proposals to create a citywide minimum wage. LePage opposes several minimum wage measures in the Legislature. He says the state should focus on helping people build skills needed for good-paying jobs. (AP)

Democratic lawmakers are hitting the road this week to sell their budget plan to the Maine public. House Speaker Mark Eves and Senate Minority Leader Justin Alfond will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday in Bangor. They'll be joined by lawmakers who represent local residents. Democrats are promoting the tax overhaul plan that they presented earlier this month as an alternative to Republican Gov. Paul LePage's budget proposal.LePage has already held several town hall meetings to discuss his tax plan. (AP)

Officials say that the body of a woman who was last seen on Friday has been found in the Sheepscot River. Lincoln County Sherriff's office said Monday that a couple walking their dog discovered Lynn Crink's body. Her body was found and recovered more than 5 miles from her home. The Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy but investigators don't suspect foul play. (AP)

The cold weather may still be holding on, but there are signs that summer in Maine is right around the corner. The National Park Service says that all vehicles are now welcome back on Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park. The road usually opens April 15, but it was delayed because of the heavy snowfall this winter and cold weather this spring. The park says it hasn't decided when its unpaved roads will be open. They usually do on May 15.

Two U.S. senators say it's time to update the Food and Drug Administration's regulation of the ingredients used in cosmetics and personal-care products such as shampoo and skin creams. Susan Collins is one of the two sponsoring legislation that would require the FDA to evaluate at least five ingredients per year to determine their safety. Under the review process, the FDA would also provide companies with guidance about whether the ingredients should continue to be used. The two senators say federal regulations covering the products haven't been updated in 75 years. (AP)

Jarod Bryan Sunday won his seventh Maine Closed Chess Championship. On Sunday, the 47-year-old Augusta man wrapped up a two-day tournament. He's now won two years in a row and three out of the last four. His first came in 1988. Twenty-four people entered. They were all members of the Maine Chess Association, which has hosted championship games since 1942. The tournament was closed, meaning it was open only to association members. He says chess is a combination of sport, art and science. (AP)

The threat of several inches of rain is raising concerns about flooding across Maine. The National Weather Service much of the state under a flood watch through Wednesday morning. Besides heavy rain strong winds could also cause some coastal flooding and beach erosion in southern Maine, which is in the midst of some of the highest tides of the year. In northern Maine, officials say they're watching ice jams that could cause flooding. (AP)

Gas prices have risen 6.3 cents in Maine in the past week. Gasoline price-monitoring website GasBuddy.com reports that the average cost of a gallon of gas in Maine is $2.45. Maine gas prices are 6.2 cents per gallon higher compared to a month ago, and about $1.23 lower per gallon than at this time last year. The price per gallon in Maine is the same as the national average. The Maine price is based on a survey of more than 1,200 gas stations. (AP)
