It's National Lobster Day today!

As if we need a day to celebrate lobster here in Maine - EVERY DAY is lobster day!

Here are a few Lobster Facts to celebrate today that you might now know:

>> Lobsters can be right-handed, left-handed, or ambidextrous.

>> Many lobster species can live to be 100 years old or more in the wild.

>> Most lobsters travel over 100 miles a year and have migratory patterns!

>> Lobsters were once considered the poor man's chicken. In Colonial times, it was fed to pigs and goats and only eaten by paupers.

>> Lobsters shed their shells in a process called molting.

>> Former President and First Lady George and Barbara Bush loved to eat lobster served up fresh at Mable's restaurant in Kennebunkport.

>> Lobsters were originally gathered by hand. It wasn't until the mid-19th century that lobster trapping became popular. Ouch!
