We’ll give her credit for looking like she is being the bigger person, as Madonna extended the olive branch to nemesis Elton John. During a concert in France, Madge dedicated her song ‘Masterpiece’ to the singer with whom she has been feuding. But her gesture came with a little bit of a backhand. Come on, you didn’t think Madge would be all warm and fuzzy, did you?

The key deets of the Material Girl/Rocket Man feud are as such: Madge had been trashing Lady Gaga at every turn in the press. Gaga and Elton are besties; she’s his son’s godmother. Elton resorted to calling Madge “a fairground stripper,” among other not-so-nice things in a recent interview. He declared, “She’s such a nightmare … Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t have happened to a bigger c—.” He also pointed out how awful Madonna has been to Gaga. Rawr.

Madge appears to have reached out first, as she dedicated the song to “Mr. Elton John,” saying, “I know he’s a big fan of it. And I know he’s a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”

That took balls! Or did it?

Let’s dissect. Madge had to be being a bit coy, since ‘Masterpiece’ beat John’s ‘Hello Hello’ for the Best Original Song Golden Globe. At the time, John’s husband David Furnish blasted Madge, calling her “desperate” after the win. He also was disgusted by the narcissism in her acceptance speech.

So Madge was looking like the bigger person while getting a dig in at the same time. We can’t tell how much authenticity is in her apology to John, since she chose to dedicate a song that beat his.

Drama, drama, drama. Will these two ever really kiss and make up?
