“Maine Open Checkbook” Gives Look at Government Spending
It is easy to talk about how state government spends our tax dollars, but now we can get a look at some numbers. In his State of the State speech Gov. LePage talked about “Open Maine Checkbook”. The goal is help government be more transparent.
According to its website, the idea is that every Mainers has the right to know how our tax dollars are being spent. Next year Maine will expand the service to include revenue data and other details related to budget expenses. Apparently, Gov. LePage will be more accessible too. He has plans to hold Saturday office hours to meet Mainers one on one to discuss their concerns and issues.
