When it comes to industry in Maine, we have so many different ones that are critical to the overall economic success of the Pine Tree State.

However, as many would argue, none are quite as financially impactful to Vacationland as tourism.

Each and every year, the state of Maine makes millions and millions from tourism.

And, as most Mainers will tell you, we have a real love/hate relationship with tourists. We love that they come here May through October in droves and spend their big out-of-state paychecks at Maine restaurants, hotels, theme parks and more.

But, how do all these people just end up in Maine?

Sure, some of it is probably word-of-mouth from friends or family of theirs telling them all about us. Some come every year because they're rich enough to have a "vacation home" along the Maine coast.

Though most people I would argue show up in Maine because the TV told them to. You see, Maine spends millions of dollars each year on different marketing campaigns to get people from all around the United States to choose Maine for their next vacation.

And why wouldn't they want to? We have beaches and whale watches in the summer, leaf peeping in the fall, world-class skiing and snowboarding in the winter and mud in the spring. There's always something cool to do in Maine.
