Names are kind of like clothes, aren't they? I mean that in the sense that they seem to move in trends. What was in for clothing back in the 1980s was not in style by 1997. It's the same thing with baby names.

When it comes to names, especially in the English language, there are thousands upon thousands of options for both boys and girls. And, each and every year, that list continues to expand as 'new' names are created and used all around the country.

And while it's fairly easy to jump online and do a quick Google search for the most popular baby names in the United States, it becomes quite a bit more difficult if you're looking for the most popular baby names in a specific state.

Now, why would someone care about what the most popular baby names are in a specific state? Well, my theory anyway, is that many parents don't want to name their kids something that everyone else is currently using.

According to an article published by Stacker, they have compiled a list of the most popular boys names from the year 2000 through 2009. Some of the names actually surprised me because they seemed like names that I wasn't used to hearing until much later, like post 2010. But alas, they have the data from the Social Security Administration so it's gotta be right.

Take a look at the list below and see if your name made the cut for most popular. Additionally, you can see how many others in Maine got the same name that year. Oh, and you can also see what you name means, too!
