Did you know that Sidney, Maine is a dry town? That means that open containers of liquor can’t be served on-site anywhere in town.

Some residents and local businesses are looking to change that, a bit.

On March 17, a day before the annual Town Meeting, residents will to vote on a referendum. According to centralmaine.com, the question will be, should Sidney "allow the sale of liquor that is to be consumed on the premises of licensed establishments on all days, but Sunday."

In recent years, event venues such as the Snow Pond Center for the Arts and the Lakeside Lodge, would have caterers get event permits, that they believed allowed alcohol to be served. Now, they are told those permits were issued eroneously.

A public hearing about the referendum will be held March 6 in the Town Office at 7pm.
