It’s taken far longer than a trip over the rainbow to finally get NBC Wizard of Oz reboot Emerald City clicking its heels, but even without a formal premiere date, the first official photos of the Tarsem Singh-directed series have arrived. Oh, what fortuitous timing be this. Just days before February, SNL has set its second host of the 2016 month behind Larry David, as Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon’s fellow Ghostbuster Melissa McCarthy will return to take the stage, with none other than Kanye West bringing up the rear.

It’s been some time since we learned NBC would replace the unendingly topical Donald Trump on Celebrity Apprentice with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and at last we know how the rest of the series will shake out. In addition to moving to California, Season 8 will feature guests the likes of Tyra Banks, Jessica Alba, Warren Buffett, and so many more.

Netflix has made no secret of how secret they keep any sort of “ratings” data for their original programming, a constant source of frustration to networks still under the Nielsen model, itself no longer a valid measurement of a given show’s audience. Now, NBC claims to have gotten a bit of payback, utilizing some unique approaches to measure Netflix’s overall viewers, and suggesting it on par with broadcast.

With the loss of 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation, NBC has struggled in the sitcom department and fallen far short of their former glory, particularly in the face of FOX’s strong lineup and excellent original content from Netflix, Amazon and other streaming providers. There are potentially great things ahead, however, as the company has ordered pilots from Tina Fey, Mike Schur, Marlon Wayans and DC comics, offering a veritable variety platter of humor that could very well punch-up their sitcom lineup and put them back in the game.

SNL bounced back nicely from Donald Trump this past weekend with The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks, looking even bigger this coming Saturday with Matthew McConaughey and Adele, but December 2015 will really go all out. Our final three hosts of the year include Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth (poor Liam), and best of all, a dual Sisters hosting with SNL alum Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
