Today is ‘Greasy Spoon Day‘ a time to remember your favorite place to eat back in the "good old days." Local diners, got to love them. I have a few from my childhood.

My Mom used to take us as a family to the Bluenose Restaurant in downtown Halifax. I’d get the special for $2 which consisted of a hamburger, fries and a soda, just two dollars. Chicken Burger in Bedford. They served boiled chicken sandwiches basically served on a steamed bun. That place was set in the 50s or maybe was built in that time and never updated? A third Halifax area “greasy spoon” that I loved growing up was the Spartan on Quinpool which I read is now closed.

For the restaurants more relevant to my faithful Moose listeners. I think the coolest spot in the listening area is the A-1 Diner in Gardiner. The food is great and love the train car setting. One that is a bit away but still worth mentioning is The Red Arrow Diner in Manchester, New Hampshire. They have name plates on the counter at the seat where famous people have sat. Adam Sandler, David Archuleta come to mind.  Becky’s in Portland is cool, The Maine Diner in Wells gets my seal of approval as well. The Airline Diner on Rt 9 between Brewer and Calais, been there too. One place I do want to hit is the China Dinah. Never been but will make it very soon.

Diners are a piece of nostalgia and a place where locals go and grab a bite and share stories. Let’s try and keep them thriving by choosing one when if you go out tonight.
