Washing your hands is good advice just about anywhere..even the fair.  I was at the Windsor Fair  and I did notice the liquid hand cleaner stuff, and the sign that said "the animals are healthy, are you?"  I did not get it. Apparently in the Midwest there has been some illness connected to people who have been around fairs and get sick. So a little precaution is a good idea.  BUT it is OK to go to the fairs, just wash you hands!
I was raised on a farm, and "duh" you wash your hands after contact with animals.  It is just good common scene.  I do the same after a visit to the dog park, going out shopping, anyplace I am having contact with the rest of the world.  It is germy out there and a little soap and water goes a LONG way to keeping you healthy.
