According to WABI TV 5, the Maine Centers for Disease Control was notified by Maine recipients of this latest shipment that thermometers indicated that the Moderna vaccine has exceeded the maximum allowable temperature during shipment, thus rendering the vaccines useless.

Dr. Nirav Shah, of the Maine CDC, indicated that he had reached out to all 50 recipients of the 4,400 doses and that 35 of 50 told him they had issues with the delivered vaccines. He immediately notified 'Operation Warp Speed' which said they would have the doses replaced 'Tuesday or Wednesday' here in Maine.

In a statement from Maine CDC's Dr. Nirav Shah,

"Our goal among all of this is to make sure that vaccine that comes into the state is safe, effective, and viable, before it goes into any arms. It’s always unfortunate when logistical issues of this nature crop up, but it’s also good to remember that the system has these safeguards in place so that if they happen, we know about them immediately.”
