57-Year-Old Maine Man Learns His Fate After Accessing Child Porn on Government Computer
A Maine man has been sentenced following a guilty verdict after he was accused of looking at child pornography on a Government issued laptop.
According to WGME 13, the 57-year-old man, Terrence Talbot, plead guilty in March to possessing child sexual abuse material. The news station reports that Talbot told officials investigating the accusations that he did in fact use a government computer to both look for and then download explicitly illegal material.
Talbot then used 'removable digital media devices' to store the illegal photos and videos that he had downloaded on the Government computer, according to investigators.
Talbot, a now former federal government employee, was sentenced by a judge to pay a $38,000 fine and five years of supervised release. This is a fairly reduced punishment considering the maximum penalties for such crimes include 20 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine according to News Center Maine.
At the time of the crimes committed, Talbot was reportedly living in Waterville and working for a position in the United States Federal Government, though it's unclear what specific position the man held while the crimes were committed.
