Ariana Grande ‘Sorry’ This Ex Got the ‘Worst Line’ on ‘thank u, next’
Ariana Grande's new bop "thank u, next" is already breaking streaming records and being loved by, well, basically everyone, including one surprising fan: One of her exes addressed on the song.
Grande and former backup dancer Richard "Ricky" Alvarez dated between early 2015 to mid-2016 (he was the one in that infamous doughnut shop video). On Monday (November 5), Alvarez posted a video on his Instagram story listening to "thank u, next" with a comedic zoom in on his bewildered face as the lyric about him plays: "Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh."
Grande, showing it's clearly all love between the two now, responded on her IG story with a screenshot of his post and the caption, "Im sorry u got the worst line @rickyrozay it was meant v lovingly."
In addition to the comedic clip, Alvarez also posted a tongue-in-cheek response on his story to the pop star's lyric: "Nothing but gratitude... (those songs are fire tho... you're welcome)," he wrote.
Grande re-posted and replied to that as well, in agreement:
For those who need a quick refresh of the pair's relationship, in 2015 fans began to suspect there was something more between the two. While their kiss on stage during her June 2015 Pride performance in New York City fueled the buzz, their relationship wasn't confirmed until their obvious PDA in the doughnut shop video the following month.
Sadly the couple broke up around July 2016, but based on today's cute interaction, it's safe to say it's all water under the bridge now.
Everything happens for a reason, right? Learning something from each relationship and experience is exactly what "thank u, next" is all about.
