According to a Facebook post from the Hallowell Police Department, several agencies responded to an armed standoff in the area of 61 Water Street on Tuesday just after noontime.

It is reported that along with responding officers from Hallowell PD, units from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, Capitol Police and Maine State Police Tactical team all responded to the scene.

Authorities say that the building at 61 Water Street was evacuated and that the scene, other than the shooter, was made safe.

Hallowell Police goes on to explain that the standoff lasted for just under five hours, sadly ending when the armed subject took their own life. No one else was reported injured at the scene.

At this time, the Hallowell Police Department is not releasing any other details of the incident, including the identity of the deceased. Those details will be forthcoming following the conclusion of the full investigation.
