According to WGME, Betty and Glenn Adams, of Augusta, area headed to Baton Rouge to help with Red Cross relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Laura.

The Adams, former journalists, recently trained with the Red Cross.  Part of their education included public relations and sheltering.  They left the Portland Jet Port early this (September 1st) morning.  They expect to be gone for several weeks.

When asked about why they are volunteering, Glenn explained:

"You can watch these things on TV and hear about it on the radio, but actually making even a little bit of a difference is fulfilling."
