According to the KJ, the Bread of Life Ministries shelter in Augusta is seeking $510,000 to aid in their expansion.

Their 26 bed Hospital Street (Augusta) shelter frequently has 35 families on the waiting list.  In the winter, that can skyrocket to 60 families.

The planned expansion would increase the number of beds from 26 to 40.  It would also include office space for caseworkers.

The fundraising campaign got kicked off thanks to a donation of more than $100,000 from the late Constance Merriam, a local woman who died in 2016 and left money to Bread of Life.  The Home Depot Foundation donated gift cards (for purcashing building materials) valued at $33,000.  So far, $280,000 of the $510,000 has been raised.
