It looks like people in the Augusta / Waterville area will soon have a new cellphone option.

Based on the signage that was recently installed on a Western Avenue, Augusta building, the area will soon have a Metro by T-Mobile phone store.

The new store, which will be located in a storefront that used to be home to a UPS Store, at 60 Western Avenue.  It appears there is work being done to the interior of the space and a sign was put on the building on Thursday (May 12th).  However, we can find nothing online about this store location and have no idea when it could be opening.

For those who are unfamiliar, Metro by T-Mobile is a discount, pre-paid, wireless service provider.  According to Wikipedia, the company was founded as General Wireless Inc in 1994.  It was one of the first carriers to offer a truly unlimited plan.  In 2012, Metro PCS (as it was known then) merged with T-Mobile.  It reverse merged a year later.

According to the company's website, you can get one line of unlimited 5G data for just $40 per month.

Sure, you could live in the Augusta / Waterville area and have Metro service now, but the closest store is in Lewiston (there are also stores in Brunswick, Bangor, and the Portland area).  Quite the drive if you want to update your phone or talk to a customer representative in person, especially considering the price of gas these days.

While there is no word on when this store will open, we wish them all the best.
