The seal is a male and was found in very poor condition. He was very dehydrated, lethargic, and thin. The police contacted the local animal authorities and he was taken to the Mystic Aquarium for immediate medical attention.

During the exam, they found out the seal was extremely distressed but not to worry, they got to work fast and now, the seal is becoming “bright and alert” and showing interest in fish, though he still wasn’t eating on his own. They are currently feeding him fish formula.

Mystic Aquarium started the seal on a treatment plan to help restore his health and the goal is to release him back into the ocean once he’s strong enough.

Dr. Allison Tuttle, Mystic Aquarium's Chief Zoological Officer, said, “Mystic Aquarium is pleased to have rescued this misdirected young seal in need of help, and looks forward to hopefully returning the seal back to the ocean in the months ahead. We are proud to provide marine mammal response, rescue, and rehabilitation for the state of Connecticut, and help marine animals in need.”
