Being Older May Soon Get You Out of Jury Duty
Mainers who are 70 and older would be allowed to opt out of jury duty if a bill before the Maine lawmakers gets the OK. The Judiciary Committee learned that health issues make it difficult for a lot of older people to serve.
The bill’s sponsor said there is no need to add stress to their lives by requiring them to serve on juries. The bill faced no opposition at the hearing. There are 28 other states that allow jury duty exemptions based on age. So there you go. If this passes, getting older will have one other privilege.
